Bosnia tour 'recommended by expert'

Heading into Bosnia in order to take in some of its most beautiful landscapes and historic cities is an idea that has been backed by an industry expert.

Jane Foster, writing a piece on Croatia for the Daily Telegraph, suggested a great plan is to combine time in Croatia with a period over the border in Bosnia. This will bring travellers closer to one of Europe's most cultural nations and an emerging jewel of the tourism market.

She said Sarajevo should most certainly be a port of call for all tourists in the region, as the capital has plenty going for it. Indeed, for an authentic Bosnian welcome, it might be hard to beat.

"Surrounded by dramatic mountains, the Bosnian capital is home to many mosques and churches. The effects of the war are still visible, but a fair degree of cultural tolerance has been restored," Ms Foster explained.

Bosnia boasts both wonderful natural scenery that ensures it stands out from almost any other destination and immense heritage and history. Its towns and cities are packed with traditions and enchanting ways of life that can be picked up by visitors.

Ms Foster went on to pick out the city of Mostar as another place that is well worth visiting on a Bosnia tour. The ancient city is famous for its restored bridge and Ottoman old town area, where beautiful surroundings make the ideal spot for something to eat and a browse of the local shops.

Of course, people in Croatia and Bosnia will never be too far from the coast, so another good option is to head to the Adriatic for a dip in the deep blue waters or a relaxing afternoon on the beach.

There is so much to see and do in Bosnia that it seems a shame to miss out. As the country continues its ascent towards premier status in Europe's travel industry, those who experience it as soon as possible could still find the most authentic offering in place.
