Balkan Road Trip is part of the Sail Croatia Adventures group - a family-owned business specialising in cruises around the stunning coastline of Croatia and guided tours of inland Croatia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Slovenia, Montenegro and Albania. We are even connecting Greece to Croatia to ensure our clients make the most of their Balkan experience. We operate with traditional standards and values including direct customer contact and a high level of personalised customer service.
Our Balkan Road Trip guides are hand-picked. They are either local guides with unrivalled knowledge of the region or native-speakers of English who have also mastered the local language and have spent years living and working in the Balkans. The guides' emphasis is on making the local culture fun, fascinating, informative and memorable. We love all the countries in the Balkans and we are sure that by the end of your tour with us, you will too!
We also strongly believe in supporting sustainable, local tourism by investing in small, locally-run businesses. As such, each of our buses is sourced from local family-run businesses and the boats we charter are family-owned and operated. In addition, our Road Trips offer tailor-made excursions on each route, which range from horse-riding in Albania and canyoning in Slovenia, to cookery lessons and 4x4 off-roading in Bosnia. These excursions are run by local people on a small scale, often exclusively for our Road Trips.
We have been operating our cruises since 2003 and as pioneering market leaders we are now in the enviable position of having the best boats to work with in Croatia. In 2010 we introduced our Balkan Road Trips as a new kind of ground tour that had never previously existed, namely: small, expertly guided group tours of the best the Balkans have to offer. It must also be emphasised that we feel there is no better way to explore the coast and the inland gems than to combine a Sail Croatia cruise with a Balkan Road Trip (or two)!
The first ever Road Trips in the summer of 2010 were a success and the feedback raved about the fact that these tours really do feel like a road trip with a group of like-minded friends, rather than an uninspiring tour in a large coach of anonymous people led by a unmotivated guide.
We rely heavily on word of mouth and as such customer service and satisfaction are essential to our continued success. There are not many travel companies in Croatia, Bosnia, Slovenia, Montenegro, Albania and the other countries in the region that can offer you a truly authentic, fun experience whilst also being well-organised and genuinely caring for its customers.
